2009 will mark the 60th anniversary of the formal recognition in British psychoanalytic literature of the way that the analyst's countertransference can be used by psychoanalysts to understand a patient's inner world. Melanie Klein's significant early reservations notwithstanding, seminal contributions to the topic have followed from many psychoanalysts influenced by her ideas.
